Dedicated server web hosting and shared web hostingWhen choosing a web hosting company, one of the first things you will need to decide upon is whether or not you need a dedicated server web hosting product (where your web site is the only web site on the web server, and therefore the only web site competing for server resources and bandwidth) or a shared web server (where multiple web sites exist on the web server and share the resources and bandwidth of the web site server). One of the next decisions to make is whether you require a Windows based web server or a web server based on the Linux or Unix platforms. If you plan to used a scripting language such as Active Server Pages (ASP) or a database such as Microsoft Access then you will probably go for a Windows web server solution. However if scripting in PHP or using a mySQL database forms the basis of your requirements then one of the Linux/Unix based web servers may be better.
